Sounds Reviews: Many Birthdays

Many Birthdays

So, Many Birthdays have been a favorite of mine at sometimes, and others, just enjoyable.  So, when i got their new album, Emptiness is Forever, in the mail i was basically ecstatic (so pumped to actually get an album i wanted, instead of something that i actually had to sit through).  Unfortunately, it came to me at the worst possible time (right before i was going to be gone for 3 weeks) (oh, by the way, i’m back now).  I wish i could have gotten to it earlier, but it’s just a blog… who’s really going to care.

Anyway, so when i got the disc i was concerned.  A review would either going to be obvious (since i have gone to their shows and liked them) or such a huge disappointment that i would have to give it a bad review, but screw being obvious, the album is good.  The first time i played it, i got a little distracted by the punchy vocals, they stay out; so much so that i actually missed a lot of the subtleties that the synth has to offer.  Japanese lyrics (i think) are a bit lost on me, but you know that’s what you are getting if you have listened to them before.  Sorry for the brevity…

This is the part of the article where i talk about the things that i don’t like about the album.  While there are some, i’ve decided to skip it because i have been too nice to a lot of albums and i think that one way to actually let people know that this is an album that is legitimately worth a listen.  Is that fair to you, the reader?  Probably not, but i don’t have time to worry about that, it’s already 2 and i haven’t had lunch yet!

Anyway, Many Birthdays are playing TONIGHT (thursday) at Mohawk.  So, i am saying (if you read this in time), tonight, set your dvr to record Always Sunny, then go out to mohawk… i know you are going to be distracted by the MSTRKRFT and Future Clouds and Radar shows, but focus, go to mohawk, and see Many Birthdays.
