Many Birthdays

6-23-08:
Many Birthdays played Mohawk Monday.  I have to say I was probably the only paying customer there… It was dead.  Well, here is where I have some good news and bad news.  Good news is that Many Birthdays played a Joy Division track (apparently for the first time) and hit the sound right on.  The bad news is that the vocals kinda suffered throughout the night. You really cannot substitute the holy* voice of Ian Curtis without a substantially essentially changing the song (a la Nouvelle Vague).  So yea, I can’t say I was impressed as I usually am by these guys, oh well… it was dead anyway.
So these Paper Planes guys were alright.  It sucks that their stuff was stolen and they had to borrow equipment.  I thought their stage presence was great, though I would cut back on the banter on stage (but again, no one was there so who cares).  Their sound was good so I wish them well.  Oh, I couldn’t really get into Baby Robots at all… so yea… Monday night…

*Bono called it that on some youtube video I once watched… it is incredibly pretentious now that I think about it though
