The Steps
6-21-08:
Well, I saw the Steps this weekend at Parish. You would have loved it, but then again you missed it cause you just had to see Get Smart this weekend… didn’t you. It was a relatively quiet night; however, Parish always has that open atmosphere even with a crowd. They were quite good as always, with their hints of proto-punk while keeping that indie sound that seems to make Austin so popular, but you probably already knew that. So yea, those mustachioed rockers topped off the night for MockTigers’ album release. Anyhow, while they say they are from Austin, the Steps might actually be from Beaumont from some of the on stage banter I heard (just in case any of you xenophobic douchebags care). I think they are going on tour soon, but I don’t really know.
Right, so Scorpion Child opened up for them, plenty of energy (which they always do) even going into the crowd at one point. Those guys just seem like a good time in general. Anyhow, (oh great here comes the idiot jerkface critic that everyone hates) MockTigers I had to take a pass on. Not that they weren’t the best on stage, but just cause I can’t get into the music. So, while I think it was kinda strange that they weren’t headlining. I think it was cool of them to share the stage even on their big night. So, yea… that’s about it. Oh wait, I was over at Fado later, and saw this Scottish(?) band from DFW, I was kinda into it, called the Killdares (I think… I was drunk).
